Early Literacy

All children deserve the joy of reading and the skills in life that literacy brings. Developing early literacy is the first step that will help your child learn to read and write. While your child cannot yet read or write in the literal sense, incorporating the six early literacy skills into your conversations, play, and interactions helps them to build the foundation that will prepare them to learn these skills in school.

It is never too early to start reading to your child! Delta County Libraries are committed to strengthening children’s literacy through library services and community advocacy. Our baby lapsits, tot times, and preschool storytimes will introduce you and your child to the joy of reading. Check out our schedule of programs!
